The Bay County Sheriff’s Office has received numerous complaints of high-power watercraft being used in the Econfina Creek system and adjacent springs. Using any watercraft with an engine that exceeds 10 horsepower within Econfina Creek is prohibited by county ordinance.
Bay County Code of Ordinances Sec. 5-2 states that within Econfina Creek, safety hazards to swimmers and those using canoes and kayaks are caused by “…high-powered water vessels and by jet skis and wave runners.” As a result, there is a restriction on horsepower, and a total ban on jet skis and wave runners in the Creek.
Anyone convicted of using high-powered watercraft within Econfina Creek can be subjected to a fine not to exceed $500 and possible arrest on a misdemeanor charge.
