The Bay County Sheriff’s Office will offer Teen Driver Challenge classes all summer for Bay County teens with a valid Learners Permit or Drivers License.

The Teen Driver Challenge instructs teens ages 15-19 in safe driving techniques during hazardous conditions. Using the specially modified Teen Driver Drift Car, teens will experience a car skidding out of control at a low speed with a trained deputy sitting next to them in the passenger seat. This will allow the teen driver to learn the techniques that will help bring the car back under control. By having this experience in a controlled environment, the teen driver will be better equipped to survive an out-of-control car in a real world, life-threatening situation. Teen will also drive their own cars with a deputy to learn additional safe driving techniques.

The Teen Driver Challenge is offered by the Bay County Sheriff’s Office at no cost. Teens must have a valid Learners Permit or Drivers License to participate. They also must bring their own vehicle to use during a portion of the course.

Applications can be downloaded on the Bay County Sheriff’s Office website at www.bayso.org or can be picked up at the main office at 3421 North Highway 77 in Panama City.
