Joseph Scott Byers faced a jury yesterday, Feb. 28 on charges that included Arson, Attempted Child Abuse and Contributing to the Dependency of a Child.
As many will recall, on March 8, 2012 Byers was arrested after his mobile home was set on fire and riding away with his 3 year old child on a bicycle. Byers and his son later had to be pull from St. Andrews Bay after the boat they were in sank.
The jury found Byers Not Guilty on the arson and child abuse charge, but found him guilty of contributing to the dependency of a minor, which was a lessor included charge.
Sentencing is scheduled for March 15 in Judge Fensom’s Courtroom.
