The Bay County Sheriff’s Office has received numerous calls today in reference to the latest twist on Identity Theft scams in Bay County. Complaints today have been in reference to phone calls placed to victims by an individual claiming to be a Bay County Sheriff’s Office Warrants Investigator.

Victims state the caller claims to be an “Investigator” and informs them they have had a warrant issued for them. The “Investigator” then states if they wish to avoid arrest, the victim can simply pay a fine. All the victim must do is share banking information with the “Investigator” to pay their fine over the phone. The caller also asks for other personal information from his intended victim. The goal is Identity Theft.

Residents are warned to NEVER share personal information with anyone on the phone. BCSO Warrants deputies serve warrants in person and do not call ahead of time and never ask for personal information.

Anyone who wishes to report a fraud or scam is encouraged to call the Bay County Sheriff’s Office at 747-4700.
