The Bay County Sheriff’s Office responded to the 231 Truck Plaza on Highway 231 and Highway 20 at about 6 PM yesterday evening after receiving information about a man in a car that was wanted on a warrant out of Kentucky.
Deputies responded and approached the red Toyota Highlander to make contact with Jonalan Chival. When Chival saw them he jumped out of the driver’s seat and ran in the nearby woods. Deputy Jason Ruthven and his K9 Chase were called to the scene. Chase tracked Chival and Deputy Ruthven was able to take him into custody.
Deputies discovered the Toyota Highlander was listed as stolen out of Kentucky. Also in the car was a woman named Sarah Mooney and a child. Department of Children and Families responded and took the child into temporary custody. Information was developed that the child had been abused by Chival. The child had black and blue and red marks and also cuts over his body.
Jonalan Chival, age 27, of Kentucky, was charged with Fugitive from Justice (Kentucky) for Felony Battery, Resisting an Officer Without Violence, Grand Theft, and Aggravated Child Abuse. Sarah Mooney, age 26, of Kentucky, was also arrested and charged with Child Neglect and Grand Theft.
