Anne Arundel County, Maryland, Police Officer Michael Flaig – Alleged Testicle Biter

Bay Community News tries hard to keep its stories local to Bay County, the 14th Judicial Circuit, and sometimes other Florida cases.

However, this reporter could not pass this one up originating in Baltimore, Maryland where police abuse and riots have recently hit national news repeatedly.  However, this one reaches new heights of absurd and weird.

Yesterday, Tuesday, May 5, 2015, a Cinco de Mayo celebration resulted in a brawl between an off-duty Anne Arundel County police officer, Corporal Michael Flaig, allegedly intoxicated, and an unnamed victim.

The brawl allegedly occurred behind Looney’s Pub in the 2900 block of O’Donnell Street in Baltimore, Maryland.

During the brawl Officer Flaig was alleged to have bitten the victim in his testicles causing an injury and bleeding when fighting over a woman.  The victim was treated at the scene for injuries to his testicles, knees, elbows and lip.

While the victim may not be attending any Policeman’s Balls anytime soon, he is recovering nicely.

Flaig fled but was found at a nearby bar with blood on his shirt, and was arrested on misdemeanor charges of second-degree assault, public intoxication and endangering the victim’s safety, according to police.

Anne Arundel County police and Baltimore Police Department Internal Affairs will be investigating the incident.  Anne Arundel County police released the following statement:

“On May 5, 2015, the Anne Arundel County Police Department was informed by investigators with the Baltimore Police Department that a member of our agency was arrested. We have learned that Corporal Michael Flaig, a 10-year veteran of the Anne Arundel County Police Department assigned to the Northern District, was arrested and charged with a second-degree assault and public intoxication after an altercation in the Canton area of Baltimore.

“The Baltimore Police Department is investigating this matter and any further inquiries as to the circumstances of this arrest should be directed to them. The officer’s police powers have been suspended and he has been placed on paid administrative duties.

“These charges are disturbing and we have an obligation as police officers to conduct ourselves in a professional manner on and off-duty,” said Anne Arundel County Chief of Police Timothy J. Altomare. “We will cooperate fully with the Baltimore Police Department as they conduct their investigation. At this time, we cannot comment further because for our agency, this is a confidential personnel matter.”
