The Bay County Sheriff’s Office responded to a call for assistance by the Calhoun County Sheriff’s Office this morning after a suspect reportedly attempted to board a school bus in the area of CR 167 and Betts Road in Calhoun County. Reports of shots being fired at passing motorists in the same area were also believed connected to the suspect.

According to the Calhoun County bus driver, the man first appeared to be a student and so the driver stopped the bus at CR 167 and Betts Road. The driver did not see any firearms in the possession of the suspect. When the driver realized the suspect was an adult, the driver refused to allow him to get on the bus and drove away.

K9 teams tracked the suspect west, across Highway 231, and then south to Hightower Road and were very close to the suspect when a FHP trooper driving on Hightower Road spotted him in a field along the road. He was taken into custody without incident.

The suspect has been identified as Christopher Michael Kayser, DOB 4-15-88. Kayser is currently being questioned by law enforcement. Anyone that may have seen this suspect or any suspicious behavior in the area of C.R. 167 and Betts Road this morning is asked to contact the Calhoun County Sheriff’s Office at 850-674-5049.
