The Bay County Sheriff’s Department has arrested a total of 5 people in the murder of Wallace Scott, 91 of Southport.
On April 6th neighbors who hadn’t seen him in several days called the Sheriff’s Department to conduct a welfare check. What they found was a murder.
The same day he was found, 2 of his former caregivers were arrested for using his credit card. They caregivers were identified as Sherri Mercer and Deborah Cupp.
Mercer had been named in Wallace’s will; however he had planned to have her removed.
3 additional people have been arrested in the murder. They are Ashley Griffin, 28, and Kevin Jeffries, also 28, both of Hartford Alabama. David Challender, age 26 is from Caryville.
According to the arrest affidavit, Ashley Nicole Griffin drove Kevin Jeffries and David Challender to the home of Wallace Scott. Deputies say that the trio beat him to death hoping he would reveal the pin number to his debit card.
Both Challender and Jeffries are related to Mercer. When conducting a search of the home belonging to Jeffries father, items taken from Mr. Scott were discovered.
