Sheriff Frank McKeithen would like to extend an invitation to the public to attend the 100th Anniversary Celebration of the Bay County Sheriff’s Office.

The event will be held at Tommy Oliver Stadium on Wednesday, May 22, 2013, at 9:00 a.m.

The annual BCSO Awards and Memorial Ceremony will be held at the same time. Sheriff McKeithen will honor those officers and deputies that gave the ultimate sacrifice, and will also present awards to BCSO employees that demonstrated outstanding performance in their duties during 2012.

Special speaker at the 100th Anniversary Celebration will be Brigadier General Mark McQueen, Commander 350th Civil Affairs Command, United States Army.

Pictures and information on the sixteen men who have served as Sheriff of Bay County will be on display at this event. BCSO Special units such as SWAT, K9, and Bomb Squad will have their vehicles and equipment on display.

Refreshments will be available after the ceremony. Those who wish to attend are asked to enter and sit on the ‘home” or south side of Tommy Oliver Stadium.

Attached you will find a picture of the original Bay County Sheriff’s Office and Jail, located at the downtown Marina. I believe this picture was taken around 1910-1913. Also, another picture is attached of a “mobile” jail Sheriff Scott created to move the prisoners around as they had a bad habit of ripping up the floor boards in the original jail and escaping into the waters of St. Andrew Bay. With the moveable paddy wagon, Scott was able to keep an eye on his prisoners by taking them with him where he had to go.
