The Bay County Sheriff’s Office responded to a call in reference to a shooting last night shortly before midnight at 4030 Hobbs Road, Southport.
Deputies arrived to find the victim had been shot five times at close range. EMS took the victim to a local hospital.
BCSO Criminal Investigators have determined that the victim and the suspect’s wife were sleeping in the home when the suspect, identified as Michael Oloughlin, age 43, came to the victim’s home on Hobbs Road and slashed all four of the victim’s tires before knocking on the front door. The victim answered the door and Oloughlin tried to force his way in but the victim was able to shut the door. That is when investigators believe Oloughlin fired multiple times through the door, striking the victim five times before fleeing the scene. The victim was hit three times in the left arm and two times in the left leg. Oloughlin used a Springfield Armory 40 caliber handgun.
The suspect’s wife called 911 and gave a description of Oloughlin’s vehicle. The victim, who remained alert despite having been shot, also made a 911 call.
BCSO deputies quickly spotted Oloughlin’s vehicle, a F-250 with an Alaska tag, and pursued. Washington County and Jackson County Sheriff’s Offices assisted in the apprehension of Oloughlin. His tires damaged due to the deployment of spike strips by WCSO deputies, Oloughlin lost control of his vehicle on I-10 and crashed.
He was taken into custody by Washington County deputies and brought to the Washington County Jail. He is now in the Bay County Jail on charges of Shooting into an Occupied Dwelling, Aggravated Battery with a Deadly Weapon, and Fleeing and Eluding. Additional charges expected.
The victim remains in a local hospital with injuries not considered life threatening.
