May is National Pet Month, as Bay County Animal Control (BCAC) and the Women’s Club of Panama City continue their efforts to increase animal adoptions at the Bay County Animal Control facility.
One day each month, volunteers from the Woman’s Club and BCAC employees bring adoptable animals to the Bay County Government Center, located at 840 W. 11th St., Panama City. They will be at the center this month on May 10 from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.
“Many people don’t know pets are available for adoption through Animal Control, and even if they do, they may not know where the facility is located,” Jan Gainer, Woman’s Club president, said. “By having these animals available at a location as central as the Government Center we can help anyone who is thinking about adopting a pet check out what Animal Control has to offer.”
The partnership serves as the Woman’s Club’s Community Improvement Project for 2012-2014 and aims to increase animal adoptions and to encourage people to spay and neuter their pets to reduce the number of unwanted animals delivered to Bay County Animal Control.
“The GFWC Woman’s Club of Panama City is committed to continuing our 99-year history striving to make our community a wonderful place,” Gainer said.
The fee to adopt a pet is $75 and includes sterilization, vaccines, microchipping, flea and de-worming treatment.
